Prosthodontics is a subspecialty of dentistry that is focused on replacing lost or damaged teeth with implants, dentures or crowns, and bridges. A prosthodontist is also skilled in treating temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).
A bridge is a dental device that’s designed to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges comprise a metal framework that spans or “bridges” the gap left by missing teeth, as well as one or more prosthetic teeth that are tinted and shaped to blend in with the surrounding teeth. A bridge is typically attached to the teeth on either side of the gap. To ensure those teeth are strong enough to support the bridge, the supporting teeth are typically fitted for crowns to enclose them in a strong covering. Dental bridges can be designed to be either fixed in place or removable.
As long as you have enough underlying bone to support the implant and ensure it’s firmly implanted in your jaw, you can be a candidate for dental implants. Even if you’ve experienced bone loss from a previous extraction or tooth loss, bone grafts can help restore some of that bone so you can still have a dental implant. Before undergoing an implant, be sure to discuss any medical conditions you may have with Dr. Gabi so he can make sure implants are the right choice for you.
TMJ appliances and splints work by gently repositioning your jaw to relieve stress and properly align your bite. Oral devices are conservative treatments aimed at relieving symptoms without damaging teeth or requiring surgery.
